Cafe Sketch, Rome, Italy 6×6

This is a mixed-media painting of sidewalk cafes in Rome. I painted this using the same techniques I use to do an on-site street sketch, which means that you will see it all: stray pencil marks, colored pencil, paint marker, and gouache. Although I painted it from a photograph, it’s meant to be loose, informal, and to capture the process of street sketching.

This painting measures 6 x 6 inches. The paper is high-quality 140 lb watercolor paper measuring 9×9 inches.

Paintings are signed on the back in pencil. Some of my paintings are done on-site, which means that the paper may have slight scuffs or very minor blemishes around the edges or on the back. That’s just part of the process of working outdoors.
