A House in Langres
I’ve been twice to a little village in France called Langres to do research for a book. It’s a gloriously out-of-the-way place that is not terribly interesting to tourists, which makes it very interesting to me. It was in Langres that I first started photographing and painting doorways, but somehow I never got around to painting this particular ancient, crumbling door. This one is done entirely with three colors of ink: black india ink, Diamine Honey Burst, and just a few drops of a very fancy ink called Emeraude de Chivor by Jacques Herbin.
8 x 10 inches, ink on paper. The paper itself measures 9 x 12 inches.
Paintings are signed on the back in pen. Some of my paintings are done on-site, which means that the paper may have slight scuffs or very minor blemishes around the edges or on the back. That’s just part of the process of working outdoors.
