When I go to New York, I take a lot of pictures of fruit stands.  Fruit stands and doorways–that’s my Manhattan oeuvre.  I’ve got another doorway painting on my easel now.

But the thing about the fruit stands is that the stacks of fruit are so orderly and symmetrical, just like the pattern of buildings and streets behind them.  On the other hand, they are these glorious spots of color in what can be a very grey streetscape.  It’s all so urban and interesting.

Just thinking about it is making me want to jump on a plane and get back there.  Anybody got a line on a cheap Manhattan apartment?  Hmmmm….

  1. Hi Amy,
    So.
    You garden. I garden.
You’ve got a Certified Garden (so I read in the NRDC mag. that just arrived.) I’ve got a Certified Garden.
    You paint, I paint.
I love books. You just bought a bookstore.
How come we’ve never met face to face? Humboldt County’s not that big.
Consider this “Hi!” from the wilds of Dow’s Prairie. We have one acre out off Baird Road near the end of Chaffin Lane, which turns out to be in interesting microclimate, even compared to Baird Road.
Our main garden feature is a 50’x50′ pond, over 4′ deep at one end. We just had our first duck visitors, one male and two female hooded mergansers.
Anyway, hope to cross paths sometime.
Have a happy New Year and great 2008!
