8th Avenue, New York City

Sometimes I get a lot of mileage out of just one intersection.  I walked back and forth across the crosswalk through several light changes, snapping pictures. This is the latest of several I’ve done from the same intersection.  I’m in love with this 6 x 12 size–it totally lends itself to paintings of the city. 6 x 12 inch oil on 1.5 inch thick cradled wood panel.  Click here to bid, go here to see other paintings, and go here to see my Daily Paintworks...

Morning in Manhattan

This actually comes from a photography by Bobby Williams.  I saw it online and asked him if I could paint it, and he agreed.  I’m just in love with all that blue light.

Going to the Gig

New Orleans, of course.  I saw this guy with his bass and just followed him around until the light hit him just right.

Street Umbrellas

I did an interview on the Daily Paintworks blog in which I confessed that this painting is pretty much all about me avoiding having to paint faces.   Still, it was a fun one to do–I don’t think I’ve ever tackled this many figures at once.  It’s all just lines and colors, right?

Exchange Place

Beautiful little alley in New Orleans.  I think I’ve painted it three times. I saw it in a TV commercial and recognized it immediately, because I’ve done those buildings in the background so many times.

On McAllister

I was in Golden Gate Park one day last spring, and I wandered out of the park and into the neighborhood to take some pictures. I used to drive through this neighborhood all the time and I always fantasized about living there–so here’s my fantasy corner coffee shop. Some of these images are resizing themselves in an odd way.  I’m working on that. Meanwhile, you can get a better look at Daily Paintworks.

Rue Saint-Paul, Old Montreal

Rue Saint-Paul, Old Montreal

I could not stop photographing this narrow old street in Montreal last summer.  Most evenings I would pace around, waiting for the lights to come up.  I could probably just work on Rue Saint-Paul for a year and not run out of material.  It’s a touristy area now–all restaurants and shops and art galleries–but it really is a lovely old European-style piece of Montreal in spite of the souvenirs and overpriced drinks. This is 8 x 10, oil on 1/2 inch panel.  Click here to bid, go here to see all paintings on eBay, and go here...
